2019-03-27 12:04

Residents of the Overberg town of Elim are in shock following the discovery of the body of a 6-year-old girl who had been missing since Sunday.

According to the Mitchells Plain Gangwatch Facebook group, Delvina Europa was found naked in the bushes on Tuesday morning. It is believed that she was raped and murdered.

EWN reported that her body was found behind a primary school in the town.

Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk has confirmed the discovery of Europa's body.

According to Van Wyk, the matter is being investigated.

Netwerk24 reported that a 35-year-old man from the area had been taken in for questioning in Barrydale. Europa was reportedly seen with the suspect walking toward the bushes where her body was later found.

He had reportedly been discharged from a drug rehabilitation centre a month ago.
