Pretoria - A frantic search by police, security officials and paramedics for a "missing and possibly kidnapped" Pretoria toddler has had a happy ending.

The 4-year-old Garsfontein girl hadn't actually been missing – but was just playing hide-and-seek under a table, Netwerk24 reported.

According to Netcare 911's Athlenda Mathe, more than 50 people helped look for the child.

"The tablecloth moved and Cilliers Naude, of Basic Life Support, looked underneath it. After moving a few chairs, she found the girl," said Mathe.

She was lying under the table.

Mathe said the girl played hide-and-seek with her father every day when he got home from work, "but this time she'd hidden so well that no one could find her".

Her parents had thought she had been kidnapped.

Her mom was treated for shock at the scene.
