A Limpopo police official who was arrested on charges of murder and attempted murder was granted R10 000 bail on Wednesday.

Captain Dennis Nghunyule,55, who was stationed at Modjadjiskloof Police Station outside Tzaneen, was arrested in May after he allegedly shot and killed a man who was a customer at a tavern he owns in Makosha village, outside Giyani.

According to police spokesperson Sergeant Marobo Seabela, on May 19, the customer at the tavern had had an argument with Nghunyule who is then alleged to have shot the man with his service pistol.

When the brother of the customer intervened, he was also shot and wounded.

The two siblings were taken to hospital where one died.

Nghunyule was later arrested and had been in custody while his case saw several postponements.

He appeared in the Giyani Magistrate's Court on Wednesday where he was released on bail.

The case was postponed to August 30 for further investigation.
