Mom, daughter survive after fire destroys Brixton home

Johannesburg - A mother and daughter escaped unharmed after a fire ravaged their house in Brixton, Johannesburg at the weekend, paramedics said on Monday.

A 6-year-old girl was treated for smoke inhalation and taken to hospital. The mother of the child did not need medical help, Netcare 911 spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said in a statement.

The house in Hursthill, Brixton, caught fire around 14:00 on Sunday.

Police are investigating the matter.
