Monday's weather: thunderstorms across 6 provinces

Severe thunderstorms are expected in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, the northern parts of KwaZulu-Natal, southwestern parts of Limpopo, the central and eastern parts of the Free State and the North West provinces, says the SA Weather Service.

High fire danger conditions are expected over the central and eastern parts of the Northern Cape, the extreme western parts of North West and Free State provinces.

It will be cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers in Gauteng. The expected UVB sunburn index is moderate.

Mpumalanga will experience morning fog patches over the escarpment, otherwise cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers.

Limpopo is expected to see morning fog patches over the escarpment, otherwise cloudy and warm but hot over the Western Bushveld. Scattered showers and thundershowers are possible, but isolated in the north-east.

The North West will be cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers but partly cloudy and hot in the west with isolated thundershowers.

Free State will be cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers but partly cloudy and hot in the west with isolated thundershowers.

The Northern Cape will be cloudy with morning fog in the west otherwise fine and cool to warm. It will become partly cloudy in the east with isolated showers and thundershowers in the afternoon. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh northerly to north-westerly.

The Western Cape will see morning light drizzle along the west coast at first, otherwise cloudy and cool, becoming partly cloudy and cool to warm in places with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers over the eastern parts of the province. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-westerly north of Cape Columbine otherwise strong south-easterly to easterly.  The expected UVB sunburn index is high.

The western half of the Eastern Cape will be cool with isolated morning showers and rain in the south east, otherwise cloudy and warm with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be strong easterly, reaching near gale force in places in the afternoon. The eastern half of the province will be cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the north west where it will be warm. The wind along the coast will be strong north easterly, reaching near gale force in places in the south in the afternoon.

Kwazulu-Natal will be cloudy and cool but warm in places in the north with widespread showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be Moderate to to fresh easterly to north-easterly. The expected UVB sunburn index is low.
