Durban - Police are still searching for the remaining suspects in connection with the robbery of a school principal in KwaMashu, police said on Thursday.

Three of the about 13 suspects aged between 18 and 19 were arrested on Wednesday for armed robbery.

The principal of Sbonise Primary School was robbed of his laptop, internet modem, two cellphones and car keys on Tuesday afternoon at about 14:30.

The robbers then went to his car and stole cash before fleeing the scene on foot.

Before the incident the principal had noticed two males who pretended to be looking for drinking water on the school's premises, said police.

While walking back to his office, the two suspects followed him in and pointed a firearm at him.

"Immediately another group of about 11 suspects entered the office," said Colonel Thembeka Mbhele.

Mbhele said police were alerted about the incident and with the help of community, the suspects were traced and three of them were arrested.

"Police recovered the stolen items. The arrested suspects will briefly appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate's Court soon, facing a charge of armed robbery.

"Police are still searching for the remaining suspects and arrests are imminent," she added.
