Cape Town - The mother of missing Paarl resident Nicola Pienaar is hoping for a miracle.

“She’s missing and it’s all speculation until we have proof. I would appreciate it if anybody who has any news on her whereabouts could come forward,” Marlaine Pienaar-Vice said on Tuesday.

“Miracles never cease to happen.”

Her friend Jacobus Johannes Oosthuizen, 32, was arrested in her car in Port Elizabeth on Saturday. It had been reported stolen.

He appeared in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.

Pienaar-Vice told News24 that Oosthuizen was a friend of her daughter's and that she never had any problems with him.

“When I met him, he was just a normal man to me and I didn’t think badly of him at all. At this point I don’t think I should judge. I will wait for proof.”

Following Oosthuizen's arrest, a detective interviewed Pienaar-Vice for more than an hour on Monday.

“I find it very difficult to understand why she would leave without telling me," she said.

Nicola, 28, who lives in a flat at her mother’s psychology practice in Paarl, was last seen at her mother’s home on January 5.

The last contact they had was two hours before she was last online on WhatsApp on the day she went missing.

Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the case against Oosthuizen was postponed until Friday. He was moved to St Albans Prison in Port Elizabeth.

When police arrested him, he apparently told them that he and Pienaar had had an argument on their way to Port Elizabeth and that he dropped her off in Oudtshoorn.

“Since then he has not given any more information regarding her disappearance,” Naidu said.

Nicola is a trained biofeedback therapist with a passion for the arts. She works as an assistant to her mother and she spends her free time drawing and creating music on her laptop.
