Durban - The motive for the fatal shooting of a security guard in his company car in Hammarsdale is still unknown, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday.

The 36-year-old man was in Zibuse village when he was killed around 19:30 on Tuesday, Captain Nqobile Gwala said.

Nothing was stolen from him.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the guard was on duty at the time. He died before paramedics got there.

Gwala appealed to anyone with information about the murder to contact their local police station or call the Crime Stop number 08600-10111.
