Outstanding psychiatric reports have caused a delay in the case of a Mpumalanga woman, who is accused of murdering her four children.

Zinhle Maditla, aged 24, appeared in the Witbank Magistrate's Court on Tuesday where the case was postponed to April 4.

"I can confirm that the woman accused of murdering her four children appeared in the Witbank District Court today and her matter has been postponed to 4 April, 2019 for a psychiatric report," National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Monica Nyuswa said.

In January, Maditla handed herself over to the police after the bodies of the four children were discovered inside her house in Klarinet, Witbank, police said.

She later abandoned her bid for bail and opted to have her mental condition evaluated instead, News24 reported in January.

She remains in custody.
