Durban - One person was killed and five others were injured in a multiple-vehicle collision on Wednesday on the M7 near Winston Churchill Drive in Pinetown, paramedics said.

It is believed the driver of a bakkie lost control of his vehicle, causing it to veer into oncoming traffic and collide with two other vehicles.

When paramedics arrived at the scene one man was found trapped inside a light vehicle showing no signs of life, ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said in a statement.

Assessments showed that the man had already succumbed to his injuries.

Meiring said three other patients were found lying trapped in a second light vehicle, all in a serious condition.

A fifth was found inside a bakkie with moderate injuries.

Police are investigating.
