Pretoria - A Gauteng resident suspected of killing a man was assaulted by community members in the Itireleng informal settlement in Laudium, police said on Friday.

The man allegedly shot and killed 34-year-old Lutendo Nenzhelele at his home during an argument on Thursday night, police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said.

Nenzhelele was taken to Kalafong Hospital where he later died.

Selepe said community members searched for the man suspected of the murder, found him and then assaulted him before handing him over to police.

He was arrested and placed under police guard in hospital.

Selepe said he had opened a case of attempted murder against the community.
