A man's body was found hanging just under the Botha Avenue Bridge over the N1 highway in Centurion at about 7 am on Tuesday.

The news spread like wildfire on social media and was described as "the incident on the N1", after a Centurion resident took to Facebook early Tuesday morning to warn people of the gruesome scene.

"If you drive North on Botha/Main rd with children... make sure you keep their eyes closed!" the resident wrote in a group.

Captain David Miller, spokesperson for the Lyttelton police office, confirmed the news and said that the incident caused major delays on the N1 at Botha Avenue on Tuesday morning.

"The forensic team was immediately called to the scene, but it still unknown whether the man took his own life or if he was murdered."

The man's identity is also still unknown.
