Durban - A man is in hospital after nearly drowning at Warner Beach on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast on Sunday morning, paramedics confirmed.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha in a statement said their team responded to the incident at the lifeguard station at 10:30.

"Reports indicate that the 25-year-old-man went swimming and was caught in a rip current," he said.

"Lifeguards managed to pull the man from the water. Although he was unresponsive medics found that he still had a heartbeat and was still breathing."

Paramedics stabilised the man at the scene and took him to a hospital in Umlazi for further care, Botha said.
