Cape Town – Former Public Protector Advocate Thuli Madonsela will continue her fight for justice when she joins Stellenbosch University in 2018.

The university's law faculty on Thursday announced that Madonsela, who finished her seven-year term as the Public Protector on October 14, has accepted an offer to join the faculty as the chair of social justice.

She will take up the post in 2018, after a sabbatical, the university said in a statement.

Madonsela said she was honoured by the offer.

"I hope to work with my colleagues at the Law Faculty to play our part in accelerating the pace of achieving the constitutional promise of an inclusive society based in social justice, shared prosperity, friendship and peace. I am also looking forward to working with young people at the university and beyond on these matters," she said in a statement.

Faculty of Law dean Professor Sonia Human said Madonsela's decision to join the team was a tremendous honour and it would "contribute significantly to the faculty's continued commitment to champion the realisation of a constitutional vision for South African society".

Part of the job's focus is in dealing with issues of social justice, including administrative justice.

Madonsela is expected to work on matters such as ethical governance in public institutions and realising the Constitution's mandate of a public administration that is responsive to people's needs.

She will not only teach and conduct research but will also be involved in civil society initiatives.
