Durban – Five new MECs in KwaZulu-Natal are expected to be sworn into office on Tuesday morning.

The ANC in KZN announced on Monday that it had decided to recall four of its MECs. It also said the vacant transport portfolio would be filled by Thomas Mxolisi Kaunda.

During a media briefing in Durban, provincial secretary Super Zuma announced that Sport, Arts and Culture MEC Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha, Economic Development MEC Mike Mabuyakhulu, Education MEC Peggy Nkonyeni and Agriculture and Rural Development MEC Cyril Xaba had been recalled.

Themba Mthembu becomes the new agriculture MEC, Sihle Zikalala takes over economic development, Bongi Sithole-Moloi moves into the sport portfolio and Mthandeni Dlungwane is the new education MEC.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Willies Mchunu, who recently replaced axed premier Senzo Mchunu, had been tasked with reshuffling the cabinet, said Zuma.
