Newborn baby found under Dusi Bridge

Pietermaritzburg – A newborn baby has been found abandoned under the Dusi Bridge, near a canoe club in Pietermaritzburg, paramedics said on Friday.

The baby boy was suffering from hypothermia, ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said.

Guards employed by B-Secure Security found the baby and began warming him up.

He was taken to Edendale hospital and police were informed.  

Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said a case of child abandonment has been opened for investigation by Alexandra Road police.
