Limpopo – A newborn baby miraculously survived after being dumped in a pit toilet in Ramatlhwa village in Limpopo.

Police spokesperson Colonel Ronel Otto said a police search and rescue team took the baby girl out in the early hours of Monday morning after police were alerted by residents that sounds of a crying baby were coming out of a toilet pit.

“Sergeant Levi Mabethlela eventually succeeded in bringing the newborn girl back to the surface. She was taken to hospital for treatment,” Otto said.

The child was taken to hospital. Otto said could not say what the condition of the baby was.

Police said the identity of the mother was not yet known and an investigation was under way.
