Johannesburg - The body of a new-born baby was found at Florida Lake in Roodepoort on Tuesday afternoon, Gauteng paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said paramedics were contacted by police after the baby was apparently spotted floating in the lake.

Paramedics found the premature baby on the bank alongside the lake, wrapped in a space blanket, said Bodasing.

The baby was declared dead at the scene.

The exact details surrounding the incident are unknown.
