North West crash leaves one man dead

Johannesburg - A man was killed in a multi-vehicle pile-up on the R53 near Ventersdorp, North West, on Wednesday night.

Three cars were involved in the collision, about 28km before Potchefstroom, ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said.

Paramedics arrived on the scene shortly before midnight.

“The 30-year-old man was found in a severely mangled bakkie. He was in a critical condition at the time. His condition rapidly deteriorated on scene and he showed no signs of life. Paramedics initiated CPR but were unable to revive him."

He died on the scene. No one else was injured. The cause of the collision was not yet known. Local authorities were on the scene.
