Professional sword swallower Hannibal Helmurto (41) ended up in hospital after he stretched his earlobes to an astonishing 62mm.

He did this as part of his “body modification programme”, which also left him with a forked tongue, floating ribs, oversized teeth and a body covered in tattoos.

But, as the skin around the earlobes got thinner, he became concerned it would rip, the UK’s Mirror newspaper reported.

Helmurto, who hails from Germany and performs in the Circus of Horrors, attempted to superglue the dangling skin together, but the adhesive wore off.

His only option was to have his earlobes sliced off and stitched back together. But after his operation, he pickled the remaining skin and is now selling the remains on auction.

Helmurto said: “After I had the operation to remove my earlobes, I always kept my ear to the ground in case an opportunity like this came up.

“I will be delighted for someone to take a little piece of me home with them.”

The earlobes will be sold at The Auction of Horrors in Leamington Spa in Warwick, England, and are expected to fetch between R3 000 and R5 000.

A spokesperson for the auctioneers said:

“As far as we know, we are the first auction house to sell physical chunks of flesh of a living person that the buyer can take home and proudly display on their mantelpiece.”

Fans will bid for the earlobes alongside other items at the auction, such as a rare Hitler Youth photo album.
