Durban – A man has been critically injured after lightning struck the house he was in near Elim in Harding in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday morning, provincial emergency services said.

The incident happened at around 04:00 and the man was rushed to a local clinic in a critical condition, KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Services spokesperson Robert McKenzie said.

Last week 21 people were injured and four people died during a severe thunderstorm in Harding.

Roofs were blown off houses and walls collapsed during the heavy storms.

Paramedics said they were having difficulty reaching patients, who were mainly in the KwaMachi area, due to the heavy wind, rain, hail, and lightning.
