Bloemfontein - The Bloemfontein SPCA is looking for a home for a one-eyed, one-eared, 8-month-old Jack Russell puppy.

Apart from the missing eye and ear, the dog had several wounds and abrasions, Bloemfontein SPCA senior inspector Reinet Meyer said in a statement on Tuesday.

The ear looked like it was removed recently, because the wound was still fresh.

"We could understand if the dog's eye was injured somehow and had to be removed, but it is very suspicious that the dog's ear is also missing.

"This dog must have gone through a very bad time, and much abuse took place here. We suspect that a pupil took the dog to school to show his friends but, after losing courage, pretended it was a stray."

The dog was found at a school in downtown Bloemfontein.

He was receiving care for a severe infection on its cut ear. It is still unclear what caused the sores on its body.

Meyer appealed to the public to help with any information on what happened to the dog, or who the owner is.

The Bloemfontein SPCA can be contacted on 051 447 3801. All information will be kept confidential.

Anyone wishing to make a financial contribution toward the dog's veterinarian care can donate to: SPCA, Absa Bank, account number 927 910 2644, branch code: 632005.
