Durban – One person was killed, suffering severe burns following a motor vehicle collision on the M4 Ruth First Highway in Durban on Sunday, a security company said.

Marshall Security spokesperson Kyle Van Reenen said emergency services attended the scene that was located north bound.

“Reports from the incident reveal that a driver of a vehicle heading north bound on the highway lost control of the vehicle at high speed causing it to collide with an armco barrier before bursting into flames.”

Van Reenen said the passenger, a man believed to be in his late 20’s managed to escape the wreckage before it was engulfed in flames.

“The man suffered moderate injuries and was attended to on scene before being taken to hospital for further care. Unfortunately the driver was unable to free himself from the wreckage and was found deceased and having suffered severe burns.”

Van Reenen said police would investigate the cause of the incident.
