Johannesburg – One person was killed on Sunday after a motorbike and car collided on the corner of the R59 and Pierneef Boulevard in Meyerton, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Pieter Rossouw said it was believed that both drivers “did not see each other at the intersection”. He added that five others were injured, two of them children.

“When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene they found that the driver of the light motor vehicle had sustained fatal injuries and was unfortunately declared dead on scene.

“The passengers of the light motor vehicle included two children believed to have been younger than twelve. The front passenger of the vehicle sustained critical injuries while the children sustained minor to moderate injuries.”

Rossouw said a husband and wife who were on the motorbike sustained critical injuries. He added that ER24 treated and transported the two children to Mediclinic Vereeniging for further treatment.

“The critical patient from the light motor vehicle was airlifted to hospital. The remaining patients were treated and transported by other services,” Rossouw said.
