Cape Town - A woman is still believed to be missing after she was washed away on the Meiringspoort Pass, between De Rust and Beaufort West, over the weekend.

Search and rescue teams were still looking for her, Western Cape local government department spokesperson James-Brent Styan said.

The pass would be closed until late on Monday for repairs, following flooding and heavy rain over the weekend. A passenger bus was trapped between two bridges on the N12 on Sunday night due to the water.

An ambulance was washed away while transporting a patient from Klaarstroom to Prince Albert Hospital. The crew and patient escaped unharmed.

The Swartberg Pass between Prince Albert and Oudtshoorn would be closed for repairs until further notice due to damage to the road on the Prince Albert side.

Gamkaskloof (Die Hel), situated in the Swartberg Pass, could be reached via Oudtshoorn.

Prince Albert’s water infrastructure had been damaged. This included the boreholes in the Swartberg Pass and the reservoir which provides drinking water to the town.

Styan said the Prince Albert Municipality had the situation under control and was doing everything possible to restore water supply.
