Pietermaritzburg – The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal said the outcomes of the 8th Provincial Conference should not be used to mirror future ANC conferences.

“The ANC in KZN held its own conference [at the weekend] and this is not about the 2017 conference as reported in the media.

“The outcome of this conference is about what we will be doing for this province. We will discuss issues pertaining to future conferences at an appropriate time,” said newly elected provincial chairperson Sihle Zikalala while delivering his closing remarks at the conference on Sunday.

Briefing the media shortly after the briefing provincial deputy secretary Mluleki Ndobe said, “Even if the current president was serving his last term, it doesn’t mean that after 2017, he won’t have any role to play in the ANC.

“All our former presidents are at liberty to participate in all organisational activities…”

The City Press previously reported that the KZN conference was seen as make or break ahead of 2017 for the Premier League.

It is reported that it was behind the election of the women’s league president Bathabile Dlamini and youth league president Collen Maine

According to the report, Zikalala’s victory is seen to bring KZN under the group’s control – joining the North West, Mpumalanga and the Free State – and making the three premiers potential kingmakers in the ANC’s 2017 succession race when Zuma is expected to step down.
