Paarl man in dock following rape of girl, 4

2016-03-03 16:27

Cape Town - A man is expected to appear in the Paarl Magistrate's Court on Friday in connection with the rape of a four-year-old girl, Western Cape police said.

The 28-year-old was arrested in Paarl East on Tuesday, Captain FC van Wyk said on Thursday.

Local councillor Joseph Mathee said residents assaulted the suspect shortly after they heard of the incident.

"That's when the police came and arrested him. The community was very angry," he said.

Mathee said a relative of the girl said she was raped at the suspect's house. He was believed to be a relative.

"This is very upsetting. Children are a gift from God and should be protected."
