Johannesburg – An elderly Johannesburg woman claimed on Monday that the management of an old age home she was living in told her pack her belongings and stay out on the streets.

Daphne Sehota, 62, told News24 that the management of Amber Court Old Age Home had asked her to leave to make way for another person.

Sehota, who has been living at the home for seven months, claimed that another person was to take her place.

She said the management of the home told her that they would "forcefully" evict her if she didn't leave.

The elderly woman said she had applied for a place in the home back in 2014.

She said a friend took her in and they lived together, however, the friend has since moved out and she had remained behind.

Management apparently approached her and asked her to reapply for a place at the old age home, and that once she had applied, she would be placed on a waiting list, Sehota said.

"The DA told me to keep staying there, because the management can't just kick me out," she said.

Sehota's close friend Lorraine Vries said: "I am very worried about her because she is a diabetic and she doesn't eat properly."

Area manager of housing in Vrededorp, Monica Molepsani, declined to comment on the matter.
