Johannesburg – The body of a man believed to have been missing for the past week was found floating in the sea off Durban on Friday, the NSRI said.

A group of paddlers found the body near uShaka in the morning, National Sea Rescue Institute spokesperson Craig Lambinon said.

"It is suspected that this may be the body of the man who went missing on Sunday."

The police’s pathology services removed the body.

In a separate incident, a young humpback whale was freed from fishing ropes near Simon's Town.

"A seven-metre juvenile humpback whale was found with fishing rope entangled through the mouth, around the right flipper and around the tail, anchoring the whale to the sea floor effectively trapping it," Lambinon said.

The SA Whale Disentanglement Network and the NSRI freed it by cutting through two ropes.

It appeared that the whale was healthy and all indications were that it had survived, said the network’s head, Mike Meyer.
