Pretoria - A Pakistani shop owner was killed in Eersterust, near Hammanskraal, when three men robbed his shop, police said on Friday.

Police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi said the 56-year-old man was attacked on Thursday night.

"It is alleged that three African males entered the shop, with one armed with a firearm and attacked two Pakistani men. They covered one of them with a plastic on the head till he suffocated and died on the scene and they assaulted the other one who was taken to hospital for treatment," said Moremi.

The trio allegedly took R800 cash, four cellphones, cigarettes and airtime vouchers, before fleeing the scene.

A case of business robbery was opened with the police.

Moremi said no shots were fired at the scene and no one has been arrested.
