Parliament – Go, you thieves, UDM leader Bantu Holomisa has told the ANC.

Speaking during a debate in the National Assembly, Holomisa called for Parliament to be dissolved immediately.

Speaking in a mix of isiXhosa and English, the UDM leader called the ANC MPs "marshals" and called for them to be removed.

This, he said, was to get a new mandate.

"We will see how many of you actually come back. Asizoxelelwa nini apha, ezi marshals. Hambani masala ndini, [go you thieves]," he said.

Other opposition parties also called for the ANC to vote Zuma out.

IFP MP Narend Singh said they were disappointed in the president’s response to the Constitutional Court judgment.

"The very least South Africa deserved was an unreserved apology, for the abuse of taxpayers’ money, for the refusal to admit that he and his family had unduly benefitted, for treating Parliament with scorn when questions were asked, and for standing by, while the reputation of Parliament, Government and his own Party sustained irreparable damage."

He said simply apologising for "frustration and confusion" was a slap in the face of every South African.

The FF Plus read a statement sent out by Zuma in 2008, when the ANC recalled former president Thabo Mbeki.

The FF Plus called for the ANC to make the same statement regarding Zuma.

"Today, the ANC members have the opportunity to search their conscience and offer leadership. As members of parliament they, furthermore, undertook an oath to obey and uphold the Constitution, and to fulfil their duties, today also, to the best of their abilities," Pieter Mulder said.

The ACDP said the president was guilty of misleading the House.

The DA’s James Selfe said the president knew his approach was wrong.

"These are the actions of a man who quite simply does not deserve the title of President of the Republic of South Africa," he said.
