Durban - A man was badly injured when he was hit by an elderly woman on a moped on the M13 in Kloof, west of Durban, on Thursday evening.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said medics rushed to the scene to find the senior citizen standing next to her damaged scooter with the injured man lying prostrate at the roadside.

"Paramedics assessed both patients and found that he man had sustained serious injuries while the woman had escaped with only minor injuries," he said.

"ER24 paramedics treated the patients and provided the man with advanced life support interventions.

"Once treated, both patients were transported to RK Khan Hospital for urgent treatment. It is understood that the man failed to notice the oncoming moped as he ran across the road."

Meiring said the man was apparently pulled to the side of the road by members of the public.
