Johannesburg - A pedestrian on the N1 North near William Nicol Drive in the city was killed on Saturday morning, ER24 said.

Spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said that after the man was initially knocked over, a second vehicle also hit him.

He was found lying in the fast lane. He was severely injured and died.

Bodasing said the driver of the first vehicle sustained minor injuries and did not want to go to hospital.

According to Arrive Alive, up to 40% of the people killed on South Africa's roads are pedestrians.
