Pietermaritzburg - Three people died and eight people, including a baby, escaped with injuries in four separate accidents in KZN at the weekend.

At one fatal accident on the R33 near Copesville, a man died in the early hours yesterday while two others were hurt in a collision between a truck and a car.

The two vehicles allegedly collided at high speed in a head-on colision while travelling in opposite directions on the crest of a hill.

ER24 paramedics declared the car driver dead at the scene.

Two other people suffered “minor to moderate” injuries.

In another accident that claimed a life, a pedestrian (believed to be in his thirties) was run over on the N2 before the Spaghetti Junction in Durban on Saturday.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the death of a man who died on the N2 Higginson Highway.

Netcare 911 paramedics found the man in a critical condition.

He went into cardiac arrest at the scene and he subsequently died.

In another three-car pile-up on the M4 northbound near Edwin Swales in Durban six people, including a young baby, were injured on Saturday night.

Hydraulic equipment had to be used to free two victims trapped in the wreckage.

The injured were transported to various Durban hospitals.

The cause of the accident was unclear.
