Bloemfontein - Mystery surrounds an accident in which a bakkie ended up against an electricity pole near Winburg in the Free State.

Photos showed the vehicle’s smashed bonnet resting on the ground, a rear wheel missing and the back door flung open to the sky.

“This kind of accident has never been seen by our personnel in the recorded history of our Emergency Medical Services. Shocking!” stated the Free State Department of Health on its Facebook page.

Social media users wondered how the vehicle ended up in the strange position.

According to the post, the accident took place on the N5 on Saturday.

One person suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Winburg Hospital.
