Durban – One person has been seriously injured after an eThekwini municipal vehicle crashed into a concrete fence on Blackburn Road, Durban North, on Monday.

Marshall Security spokesperson Kyle Van Reenen said the heavy goods vehicle was driving up a hill when the driver, believed to be around 50 years old, lost control.

"The vehicle veered across the roadway and crashed into concrete palisade fencing."

Van Reenen said when paramedics from Crisis Medical arrived at the scene they found four other occupants with minor to moderate injuries.

eThekwini fire services had to use the Jaws of Life to free the critically injured driver.

"He was put on a mechanical ventilator and a specialised stretcher, and taken to hospital."

Van Reenen said police were at the scene to investigate.
