PICS: Ministrels put on a show for Tweede Nuwe Jaar

The City of Cape Town was awash with colour on Wednesday as minstrels marched through the streets for the traditional Tweede Nuwe Jaar parade.

Several streets in the city's CBD were closed, with a stop-and-go put in place in several places. 

The parade follows the tradition of when Cape Town's slaves were given the day off for working during the Dutch colonial period. 

About 50 minstrel troupes took part in the event, despite the howling wind which did little to dampen the energy and enthusiasm.
