Cape Town - The application to keep the media out of court was dismissed in the Paarl Magistrate's Court on Thursday where the bail application of Jaco Oosthuizen was set to proceed on the same day.

Netwerk24 reported that magistrate Diane Blaauw said the court was not convinced that the presence of the media infringed Oosthuizen's rights.

She also said that people generally appear nervous and afraid of court appearances.

Oosthuizen appeared for the murder of his girlfriend Nicola Pienaar, after he body was found in a shallow grave in the backyard of his home.

His lawyer, Arthur Ohlson, said at his previous court appearance that Paarl was a small community and therefore the media exposure made Oosthuizen nervous.

Oosthuizen's bail hearing continues.
