Pietermaritzburg casino evacuated due to fire

Pietermaritzburg –The Golden Horse Casino in Pietermaritzburg had to be evacuated on Tuesday afternoon after a fire broke out, KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said.

Two people were treated for smoke inhalation.

ER24 spokesperson Annine Siddall said paramedics saw smoke coming from the casino at about 16:45 and immediately notified local authorities.  

The building was evacuated and police were searching for anyone who might still be inside the building, Siddall said.  

No injuries were reported.

Siddall said the cause of the fire was not yet known. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigation.
