Plettenberg Bay – A Plettenberg Bay mother and her 7-year-old son are in a stable condition after holidaymakers rescued them from drowning, the NSRI said on Wednesday.

The mother and child were swimming around a houseboat at anchor in Poortjies Lagoon on Tuesday when currents dragged the boy under the boat, spokesperson Craig Lambinon said.

The mother got into difficulty trying to rescue her son.

A family visiting the area got them out of the water and called the NSRI. They were taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Earlier on Tuesday, a 20-year-old man was rescued when he was caught in a rip current at Solar Beach in Plettenberg Bay. He was treated and taken to hospital in a stable condition.
