Durban - An eight-year-old girl is in a serious condition in a Pietermaritzburg hospital after she was bitten by a Night Adder in Northdale on Sunday.

Netcare911 spokesperson Chris Botha said medics had received a report of the emergency and rushed to the scene.

“Reports indicate that she was walking along the driveway when the snake bit her on the foot,” he said.

“Paramedics found the girl at her home with swelling and pain to the bite site. A neighbour found the snake under some rocks and killed it."

Botha said paramedics identified the snake as a Night Adder.

After treating the girl at the scene they transported her to a local hospital.
