Police are appealing to members of the public to come forward with information about the kidnapping and murder of a woman in Johannesburg.

The woman's body was found in the Tswelopele area of Ivory Park in Johannesburg on July 31.

Family members identified her as Itumeleng Matsoabe, aged 23, at the Germiston mortuary on August 2.

Police spokesperson Captain Bernard Matimulane said Matsoabe, of Extension 9 in Ivory Park, was kidnapped on July 30 by two people in the vicinity of Esselen Park and Birchleigh North.

"She left home earlier that evening without telling any of her family members her destination."

Matimulane added that a post-mortem revealed that she was drugged before she was strangled to death.

A case of murder and kidnapping has been opened.

"Police are asking for assistance from the public to assist them in the investigation of this murder and kidnapping incident."

Anyone with information which could assist the police can contact Constable Moses Nthoke of the Ivory Park police station on 078 589 9747.
