Police have fired rubber bullets and teargas to disperse a group of people who illegally invaded land in Protea Glen, Soweto, on Sunday afternoon.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said the illegal land invaders had since left the area.

Dlamini said police had also destroyed the structures that were built.

Residents claimed that they were the rightful owners of the land.

No arrests had been made.
