Durban – Eastern Cape police are investigating the rape and murder of a 60-year-old woman at the Ndlamble Location in Willowvale.

"The deceased... was found by her neighbour this morning [Monday] at about 11:00 in a pool of blood adjacent to her bed. She had sustained bullet wounds on her upper body," said Captain Jackson Manatha.

He urged anyone with information about the crime to contact Willowvale Police at 047 499 6200 or Crime Stop 08600 10111. No arrests have yet been made.

Police were withholding the woman's name until her family had been officially informed of her death.

Butterworth Cluster Commander Brigadier Stanley Sibhidla condemned the rape and murder of an "old, defenceless woman".

He said police would "leave no stone unturned and will do everything to bring the perpetrators to book".
