Johannesburg – Police have launched a manhunt for the killers of an Ekurhuleni metro police officer, who was shot dead while fishing on Wednesday afternoon.

Coert Jordaan, 35, was off duty and fishing at the Aston Lake in Springs on the East Rand when he was accosted by a number of men, Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said on Thursday.

According to Dlamini, he had a number of stab wounds.

Ekurhuleni metro police department spokesperson Clifford Shongwe said he had been shot. Two spent cartridges were found at the scene. His service pistol, cellphone, and bakkie were missing.

He died at the scene.

Dlamini appealed to anyone with information about the crime to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
