Police have launched a manhunt following an attack on a cash-in-transit vehicle along Petroleum Road in Silverton, Pretoria, on Tuesday evening.

Police spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela said that a group of about 14 suspects were being sought, after they attacked the cash-in-transit vehicle.

The suspects, driving in at least three vehicles - a Mercedes-Benz, Toyota Fortuna and a BMW - fired shots and forced the cash-in-transit vehicle off the road, before using explosives on the vehicle, said Mavimbela.

The driver was assaulted during the attack and was being treated at a local hospital.

"Investigations are expected to reveal whether there was any cash stolen during the attack," said Mavimbela.
