Johannesburg – Police are on the hunt for four suspects who robbed a cash-in-transit G4S security vehicle at a Caltex garage near the N14 in Brandvlei, Randfontein on Monday.
Police are also investigating an inquest after one suspect was allegedly ran over by a G4S vehicle. The 49-year-old suspect died on the scene.
Police's Constable Lucky Matome said that the suspects made away with an undisclosed amount, as well as a security guard's 9mm gun.
Another 9mm gun was recovered on the scene, but the serial number on the gun was filed off, said Matome.
According to Matome, the five suspects made their way into the garage just after midday on Monday with assault rifles driving a charcoal Audi with a fake registration number.
The men fired several shots, resulting in a security guard sustaining injuries on his lower body.
The Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigation (Hawks) are investigating the matter and have appealed to anyone with information to contact the crime stop line on 0860010111.
