Tzaneen - Eight more gang members linked to violence in Dan village near Tzaneen were arrested, Limpopo police said on Friday.

The eight suspects were arrested on Thursday which brings the total number of people arrested this week to 13, police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said.

The suspects are aged between 21 and 31. The arrests come after rival group members were axed and killed in an alleged revenge attack involving feuding gangs.

The village in Mopani district has suffered a spate of violent attacks, rapes, robberies and drug-related crimes as rival gangs Boko Haram and Sankhinyo wage war against each other.

Ngoepe said two suspects were arrested on Wednesday while three others were arrested on Thursday.

They are suspected of killing Freedom Nukeri and Joel Nkgapele over the weekend. The third victim survived the attack but is fighting for his life in hospital.

On Wednesday Premier Stan Mathabatha called for an end to gang violence. Residents said the gangs have been tormenting villagers for the past six years.
