Tzaneen – Police are on a hunt for a group of residents of Pharare Village who allegedly brutally killed a man on Friday evening.

According to Lieutenant-Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, it is believed that the group cornered the man and accused him of being involved in a series of house break-in incidents in the area in recent times.

“This is the third incident this year where community members took the law into their own hands by killing the suspected criminals in the same Policing area of Maake which is condemned by the Police.”

Ngoepe said that the group started assaulting the man with various objects up to the point where he died. Afterwards they tied his hands and legs together before throwing his body in bushes outside of the village.

He was discovered by someone passing by the scene.

At this stage the identity of the deceased is still unknown with police still searching for suspects.

Ngoepe made a call on anyone with information about the incident to visit Maake Police Station.
