Police probe case of public violence following Hout Bay taxi protests

2018-06-28 15:11

Western Cape police are investigating a case of public violence following taxi protest action in Hout Bay, Cape town on Thursday.

Taxi drivers affiliated to the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA) took to the streets in the morning to protest against competing taxi operators who, according to them, invaded their routes.

Police officers had to intervene when the drivers used large stones, trees, and burning tyres to block roads.

Update: Protesting in Hout Bay has been cleared, all roads have been reopened.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut said no one was injured and no arrests were made.

Traut added that the drivers dispersed and that roads have been reopened.

However, police will continue to monitor the situation.
